🔹This isn't just the love story between Lord Mayor Thomas Maitland and Lovina, a rowdy girl.

as well as,

🔹Daskon Maha Adhikaram and Queen Pramila is not the only love story.

 This is Wookali,

 Love was never found

But everyone else's but himself

Lived for love

Punni is the mother of Roddy Kiri

It is also the heart-pounding love story of one hundred and nine years.

The Mount Lavinia Hotel or Mount Lavinia Hotel is a magnificent mansion famous not only in this country but also among many tourists in the world. The architecture, heritage, and history of that building have become a place that captivates the hearts of any person from home and abroad. The reason for the construction of this mandir was due to a love story between a Sri Lankan Kathak and a British national. And the tunnel there is a notorious secret. If you are traveling from Colombo to Galle by Sea Bada train, you will be traveling by the Mt. Maha Hotel on the same subway line. Like this tunnel, this Mt. Hotel was built in AD. By Thomas Maitland, the second English governor who came to Sri Lanka in 1805. Considering the history here, when this governor came to Sri Lanka, a party was organized for him with various local cultural elements, dancing and singing at a very high level. There, several young women of the Rodi caste performed in front of him. Among them, he had a thought about one beautiful young woman. She is Lovina Aponzu. She is descended from a combination of Sinhala Rodi and Portuguese. She had fair and bright skin like Sinhalese women, dark hair, and brown eyes. Lovina was a 16-year-old unmarried teenager. The governor is 46 years old. He is also unmarried.

Maitland chooses to build his official residence in the 100-meter-high mountains surrounded by the sea near the village of Rodi, where Lovina is located. He built his mansion in secret because the people of Rodi, all the Sri Lankans, and the British were not happy about the relationship between the governor and the Rodi girl. A plan is made. That is to build a secret tunnel from Mandure's wine cellar to the well of Rodi Cave where Lovina is. Lovers Metlan and Lovina used this secret tunnel to meet in secret.

At that time, Roddy women were not allowed to wear a top. Their houses were not allowed to have thatched roofs. She managed to win the demands of her Rodi people because of his and hers's unrequited love. Lovina got the governor to remove all the bans.

But Lovina's and the governor's love is only a record to keep. The governor's actions by British officials concerned King John III of England. As a result of that, he was removed from the governor's page and left the country. After saying goodbye to Lovina, he leaves the country, promising her that he will come and pick her up someday when he boards the ship. Maitland, who later became the governor of Malta, died at the age of 63 as an unmarried man. Legend has it that Lovina, devastated by the loss of her lover, jumped into the sea and killed herself. A beautiful love story unfortunately ended like this.

‘‘සැබෑ පෙම්වතුන් කිසිදා එක් නොවේ. එක් වූ කිසිවෙකුත් පෙම්වතුන් වී ජීවත් නොවේ වෙන් වී ගියමුත් සදාකල් පෙම්වතුන් ලෙසම ජීවත් වෙයි."

Maitland made a request to King John. That is, to name the mansion where he lived in Ceylon as Mount Lavenia in memory of his girlfriend. That request was fulfilled by King John. A section of the tunnel built by Maitland can be seen today near the wine cellar of the Mt. Maha Hotel and the other end of the tunnel is near Mt. Buddhist College. Although this tunnel, which is a historical place, was later closed, the love story of Maitland Lavenia is still a beautiful love story popular all over the world. People who are fond of that historical love story still come to the Mt. Maha Hotel to see its remains. Legend has it that the statue of a woman in front of this hotel is the statue of Lavenia, the governor's lover.

Although Maitland's Lovina love story was a tragic event, the memory and souvenir that Sri Lanka got because of it is priceless. Mount Lavinia will be alive in Sri Lanka today, tomorrow, and forever after, reminding the love story of Lovina and Maitland.
